Diner en Blanc will be celebrating 25 years this year, but it will be the second year the dinner party will be held in Philadelphia. Started in 1988 in Paris as a way to reconnect with friends, it has grown into events that take place annually and internationally, involving tens of thousands of people. Yet, it maintains the concept set by the original dinners – gathering a group of people together in a public setting for an evening of dining and celebration, using white clothing as a way to recognize one another. These dinners are held outdoors at a public location – kept secret until the day of – and is wonderful way to showcase some of the city’s most beautiful spaces.

It’s pretty incredible that thousands of people can take over a public space in the middle of a major city, eat, dance and celebrate – all without permits or permission from the local authorities. It’s events like these that show you that people are good. Yes, I’m sure there are a ton of organizers, but without the cooperation of all the diners and their respect for others and their city, Diner en Blanc could never be as sucessful as it is. Space for the event is limited and invitation only, but you can sign up to be put on the waiting list and everyone is invited to the Preview Party next week to learn more:
Diner en Blanc Preview Party

There will be a table decorating contest where 12 contestants from across Philadelphia will showcase their elegant white tablescapes for two with live judging from three sets of “celebrity” Philadelphia judges.
And guess what?! I’m participating in the table decorating contest! I’m having so much fun planning, thinking of ideas and can’t wait to see what the other competitors come up with! So, please come out to support me (there is a People’s Choice award!) and Diner en Blanc- it should be a fun night!
